The Gambia in West Africa, has been a popular destination for birdwatchers for many years. Only 6 hours flying time from the UK, the best time to visit is from November through to April when you will be avoiding the wet/rainy season. There are many hotels and lodges where you can stay, and you will never be far away from some great birdwatching. The Gambia boasts an impressive list of over 595 species and gives visitors a chance to see, not only the familiar palearctic migrants, but also the less familiar Afro-tropical species. The Gambia has wide range of diverse habitats waiting to be explored. Details of a wide selection of popular birdwatching sites are included in the website and updated regularly.
